Jesse Marsch was announced as Leeds United manager on Monday evening and Friday marks his fourth day in charge. The Yorkshire Evening Post report what the Leeds squad think of the American, at this early stage.
Marsch, 48, has the almost-impossible job of following a club legend in Marcelo Bielsa – who won the hearts of Leeds fans during the near four years he spent at Elland Road. He was sacked, after a 4-0 loss to Tottenham.
It leaves Leeds in an intriguing spot. With 12 Premier League games to play, they sit two points above in-form Burnley – who also boast a game in hand over Leeds. Marsch arrives, Victor Orta having tracked him for two years.
He gave his first press conference and came across enormously well. Talking with a humility, a sense of humour, but a vision that Leeds fans have applauded. But results talk, starting with Leicester on Saturday.
What is equally as important, is what the players think. The YEP report that they have found him approachable: “According to sources, [Marsch] has presented an approachable persona to his players this week.”
Leeds players like Marsch: First impressions crucial in run-in
The outpouring of emotion from Leeds players on social media following Marcelo Bielsa’s sacking was enormous. The likes of Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and more paid tribute to the man that has changed their lives.
So, winning the squad over in what is a crucially important time over the next few months is pivotal for Marsch – and it seems after four days, he has done. The two need to work in tandem to avoid relegation, come May.
