Aston Villa star Tyrone Mings has now signed a new contract with the Premier League club until June 2026. The defender has agreed to extend his existing deal for another two years.
That is according to BBC Sport, which reports Mings has extended his contract with Aston Villa for a further 24 months. His terms were due to lapse in June 2024 but the 29-year-old has recommitted to the Birmingham side through until after the centre-back has turned 33.
Mings convinced Aston Villa to extend his contract after a raft of impressive performances since Unai Emery took charge. He had also bounced back remarkably well in the early part of the campaign after Steven Gerrard stripped the £80k-a-week enforcer of the captaincy.
Emery has kept Mings as a near ever-present part of his plans. Last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City marked Aston Villa’s first Premier League game in which the Spaniard has been without the defender. He had otherwise played all 720 minutes across eight fixtures.
Calum Chambers replaced Mings in the Aston Villa starting line-up against Manchester City due to his ‘small’ injury. It was further the first top-flight game the 17-cap England ace had missed since August 28. Gerrard was without him against West Ham United after falling ill.
Aston Villa extend Tyrone Mings’ contract through to June 2026
Aston Villa announced this Friday morning that Mings had signed a new contract but they did not specify its terms. Yet BBC Sport has now reported it as a two-year extension rather than a fresh deal. He agreed to the contract through to June 2024 back in September 2020.
Mings may now spend seven-and-a-half seasons with Aston Villa following his initial arrival on loan from Bournemouth in January 2019. Dean Smith paid the Cherries £20m that July to make the defender’s transfer permanent after Mings helped the Villans secure promotion.
Christian Purslow was also determined to complete the permanent transfer of Mings after winning the Championship play-offs. The Bath-born defender has since reached 149 games with the club across all competitions. He could play #150 at home to Arsenal this Saturday.
