Sunderland manager David Moyes
A report in the Telegraph has suggested that Sunderland have seemingly made their minds up regarding the fates of David Moyes, Jordan Pickford and Lamine Kone this summer regardless of what division they are playing in next season.
Sunderland return to action following the international break seven points adrift of safety in the Premier League with just 10 games to get themselves out of trouble. And while some clubs would hold fire on any plans until their future is resolved, the Black Cats seem to be setting the wheels in motion already.
According to the Telegraph, Ellis Short has reassured Moyes that his job at the Stadium of Light will still be there even if he cannot prevent the side from falling into the Championship.
Meanwhile however, the Telegraph also suggests that Sunderland are likely to sell Pickford – who is a target for Everton as well as several other Premier League sides (via The Sun) – and Kone at the end of the season even if they manage to pull off yet another great escape.
The Telegraph reports that Moyes will sell the pair to raise funds to improve the squad, even if that squad is gearing up for another year in the top flight.
Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford
While staying up seems to be an unlikely goal for Sunderland, it seems staggering that they plan to sell two of their main assets even if they remain in the Premier League.
Pickford, in particular, has certainly been one of the brightest prospects across the entire division, and finding a worthy replacement will surely be extremely difficult and is likely to cost a considerable amount of money, making a potential sale seem almost pointless.
