Ben Davies returned to Tottenham early from Wales duty on Sunday with concerns over an injury. Now, Football London say he has a slight muscle issue that he hopes to resolve ahead of Sunday’s clash against Newcastle.

Davies, 28, played the full 90 minutes as Wales took a step closer to qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – beating Austria 2-1. Davies got an assist for one of Gareth Bale’s two goals, controlling a Dan James cross.

But it was Davies that inadvertently deflected a Marcel Sabitzer shot into the back of the Wales net. On Sunday, it was confirmed that Davies has returned to Spurs early – with Wales facing the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

With the game being a friendly, Davies has pulled out of the squad – but Wales did not confirm if the defender had an injury. Football London‘s Alasdair Gold has provided an update on Monday morning.

Gold reports that Davies is suffering from tightness in a quad, but has chosen to get treatment at Spurs – rather than risking the injury against the Czech Republic – in order to be fit for Sunday, when Spurs play Newcastle.

Davies boost: Tottenham star shows loyalty, Conte needs him

There is a real sense of unity at Tottenham at the moment, as they continue to pull towards the top four. Spurs cannot afford to slip up and they need their consistent performers on the park – and Davies is one of those.

Under Conte, he has been incredibly consistent, providing stability on the left side and giving license to either Ryan Sessegnon or Sergio Reguilon to get forward. Having Davies fit is crucial for Spurs right now.
