Tottenham confirmed that Son Heung-min would undergo an operation on his face after the South Korea star suffered a fracture “around his left eye” – bad news, but The Mail claim he could be available to play against Leeds.

Son, 30, was withdrawn just before the half-hour mark on Tuesday night. Spurs came from behind to beat Marseille, winning 2-1. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s injury-time winner saw them finish top of Group D and enter the last 16.

But losing Son was a blow. Antonio Conte is already, likely, to be without both Deki Kulusevski and Richarlison until the World Cup break. Tottenham only have a couple of other players who can fill in for the injured trio against Liverpool.

Lucas Moura is now a certainty to start against Jurgen Klopp’s side. Bryan Gil can come in, but he has only been used from the bench so far. Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon could be used further forward. Or, revert to a 3-5-2 system.

Whatever Conte decides to do against Liverpool on Sunday, he is likely to be without Son. Tottenham confirmed he would go under the knife. But The Mail say he could return for the final league game against Leeds, with a mask.

Tottenham star Son could be available to play against Leeds

With only three games left to play until the World Cup, you could argue that Son’s injury has come at a good time – for Spurs. By the time the World Cup is over, he will be fully recovered and will have only missed three games at most.

One of which, is a Carabao Cup game against Nottingham Forest which he might have been rested for anyway. But to potentially get him back in the team against Leeds, and strengthen their chances of finishing on a high, is a big boost.
