Aston Villa desperately wanted Mauricio Pochettino to be their new manager.
The Villans made the Argentine an offer that was described as ‘eye-watering’ and now, some details of that offer have emerged.
Indeed, The Telegraph now report that Villa were offering Pochettino a contract worth a staggering £10m-a-year, but somehow he held his resolve and rejected the Villans.
While that salary is bordering on ridiculous, that may not even be the most alluring thing about Villa’s proposal.
Indeed, the Midlands club were offering Pochettino the chance to build his own squad with a £100m investment over the January transfer window and next summer.
Pochettino worked wonders at Tottenham on a shoestring budget, so it’s interesting to think of what he could have done at Villa with so much to spend.

Alas, this move wasn’t meant to be and Pochettino has turned down the chance to come to Villa Park.
So, what next for Villa? Well, if the Midlands club can offer £100m to any incoming manager then they will surely be able to recruit a world-class operator to come into the dugout at Villa Park.
Ruben Amorim and Marcelo Bielsa have both been linked, and we have to imagine that either of those two would be licking their lips at the chance to spend so much money at such a big club.
As for Pochettino, he’s reportedly waiting for an offer from a Champions League club, but unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any jobs in that sphere on the horizon, but with the managerial merry-go-round being as unpredictable as ever, who knows what the future holds for the Argentine?
Villa won’t be getting Pochettino, but with such a budget in place and the ability to offer their next manager a massive salary, exciting times could be on the horizon for the Clarets.
