Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips will be remaining with the club this deadline day despite an approach from West Ham in recent days.
According to the Athletic, the England international was not the subject of any formal bid from the Hammers despite reports that West Ham had made a considerable offer for the Leeds superstar.
The Sun claimed that the Irons had made a £50m bid for Phillips, with West Ham also keen on signing the midfielder’s attacking teammate Raphinha. However, both players are set to remain at Elland Road on deadline day.
The news will come as a huge relief for Leeds supporters. Whilst Phillips remains injured, the 26-year-old remains one of the club’s most important players as well as a key member of the England national team.
After a breakout 2021, interest in Phillips has been high. However, Leeds have so far done an excellent job in keeping their homegrown player at the club, with the midfielder now set to remain in Yorkshire until the summer transfer window.
As per the Athletic, Leeds are keen on extending and improving Phillips’ contract with the club, with the midfielder’s current deal signed when the Whites were in the Championship and before his breakthrough with England.
Leeds must do everything they can to renew Phillips’ contract

With West Ham even attempting to sign Phillips this month, this alone should be a red flag for Leeds that they need to put in the work to renew the midfielder’s contract with the Yorkshire club.
Phillips has become the symbol of Leeds’ rebirth as a Premier League club over the past two seasons. And with clubs now eyeing the midfielder, the club must do all they can to tie the 26-year-old down to a new contract.
