Graeme Murty is currently in charge of Glasgow Rangers on an interim basis.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes
A report in the Daily Record has provided a small hint regarding how long Graeme Murty could be in charge of Rangers for, while also suggesting that the Gers would not need £1 million to land Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as was initially thought.
The Record reports that the Light Blues board are big fans of the Dons manager – who, admittedly, has played down speculation linking him with a move to Ibrox (via The Scottish Sun) – but it had previously been thought that it would take a seven-figure sum to bring him in.
However, the Record is now suggesting that the actual amount of compensation required would be considerably less than £1 million.
Current Gers interim boss Graeme Murty
The news will surely be a boost to Rangers as they continue their search for Mark Warburton’s replacement, but it obviously remains to be seen whether they act upon their interest and then, whether McInnes is actually keen on returning to the club he played for during his career.
What appears to be a slightly more certain is that Graeme Murty is keeping one eye on potentially securing a longer spell in the dugout. The club’s under-20s boss took charge of their Scottish Cup clash with Morton last weekend, and the Record hints that he is not taking a short-term view about his position.

According to the Record, Murty is working on new tactics and formations in training, which certainly suggests that he is looking to stake a claim to keep the role on a more permanent basis.
But with many of the names being spoken about boasting considerably greater levels of experience than the current interim boss, it would surely take a brilliant run for Murty’s name to be a popular appointment amongst the fans if he is ultimately given the role.
