Rangers are reportedly looking to bring Derek McInnes back to Ibrox.

According to The Scottish Herald, Aberdeen will sanction manager Derek McInnes’ move to Rangers – if the Ibrox club cough up £1.5million in compensation.

The Gers are once again looking for a new manager having sacked Pedro Caixinha on Thursday afternoon, despite only appointing the Portuguese boss as Mark Warburton’s replacement in March.

Caixinha leaves after a summer of spending, and he ultimately lost his job off the back of poor results in the big games, and Rangers must now find a manager to take them forward.

Graeme Murty’s second caretaker spell of 2017 got off to a fine start on Saturday afternoon, with Rangers beating Hearts 3-1, but the top target of the Ibrox hierarchy appears to be Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes.

The Scottish Herald now report that Aberdeen will give Rangers permission to speak to McInnes about taking the job this week, but only if the Gers agree to pay a £1.5million compensation fee for his services.

McInnes, 46, has impressed with the Dons since taking the job in April 2013, boasting a win rate of 58% during his time at Pittodrie, whilst he even turned down the Sunderland job over the summer.

A former Rangers midfielder in his playing days, McInnes may now find the chance to return to Ibrox too good to turn down, but whether Dave King and co will be willing to fork out £1.5million to land him remains to be seen.

That fee would make him more expensive than most of Caixinha’s signings, and to pay such a fee, Rangers would have to be confident that McInnes is the man to take the club closer to Celtic, as they simply cannot afford to be searching for yet another manager in another seven months – especially if they pay such a huge fee.
