The Aberdeen manager is said to be in the frame for Gary Rowett’s old job at Stoke City.
The Aberdeen manager, Derek McInnes, is being considered for the Stoke City vacancy, according to the Sun.
Stoke sacked Gary Rowett after eight months in charge on Tuesday, and have already been linked with several experienced bosses, such as David Moyes, Sam Allardyce and Martin O’Neill.
But the Sun claims the Potters are keen to look long-term, and could approach Aberdeen for permission to speak with McInnes.
The 47-year-old has been at Pittodrie since March 2013, in which time he has led the Dons to four straight second-place Premiership finishes and three cup finals, winning one.
And despite receiving interest from Glasgow Rangers and clubs south of the border, McInnes has thus far remained loyal to his current employers.
But the chance to take over at Stoke – should it be offered – could appeal to the former Bristol City manager, who is likely to receive a budget bigger than that of most Championship clubs and perhaps even some in the Premier League.
