Celtic appear to be in pole position to sign John McGinn, but Derby County are reportedly hoping to stop a move happening.

According to a report from The Sun, Derby are plotting a £3 million bid in a late attempt to prevent John McGinn from joining Celtic this summer, while Birmingham City are also interested in the midfielder.

McGinn is arguably one of the finest midfield talents in the Scottish Premiership having enjoyed a superb first season in the top flight following Hibernian’s promotion in 2017.

Frank Lampard reporttd for BT Sport during The Emirates FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on May 19, 2018 in London, England.

And it appears that he has a long list of admirers, with The Sun reporting that a move to Parkhead to join Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops is potentially on the cards this summer. However, the Rams are hoping to scupper the Bhoys’ hopes of landing the Scotland international.

The Sun reports that Frank Lampard is willing to spend up to £3 million on bringing McGinn to Pride Park, while Garry Monk’s Blues are also ready to find the money to potentially make a move happen.

Brendan Rodgers, manager of Celtic looks on ahead of the Scottish Cup Final between Motherwell and Celtic at Hampden Park on May 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

With BBC Sport reporting that Stuart Armstrong appears to be on his way to Southampton, it would certainly be a boost for Celtic if they managed to win the congested race and add McGinn to their ranks in the middle of the park.

However, Derby must be a tempting option for the 23-year-old. With Lampard at the helm and promotion to the Premier League set to be the target for the coming campaign, McGinn would be forgiven for thinking that a move to Pride Park could be the perfect step for his career development.
