Mike te Wierik is desperate to secure a January move away from Derby County with German clubs joining old employers Groningen in the race for his signature, as reported by Voetbal International.
Rightly or wrongly, the Dutch defender has become an unfortunate poster boy for the doomed Phillip Cocu regime at Pride Park.
Te Wierik caught the eye of the one-time PSV Eindhoven boss back home in Holland.
But, just four games into Te Wierik’s Championship career, Cocu was packing his bags, leaving the 28-year-old facing an uncertain future already.
Agent Harold Eijkelkamp told Tubantia last week that it would be ‘great’ if the 28-year-old could force his way out of Derby in January, either on loan or via a permanent deal.
VI, meanwhile, claims that Groningen and Fortuna Sittard are keen to take Te Wierik back to Holland, while a number of as-yet unnamed German clubs are also showing an interest.
Derby have kept four successive Championship clean sheets under Wayne Rooney, with Curtis Davies, Matt Clarke and Andre Wisdom shining in the post-Cocu era.
Te Wierik, meanwhile, has not been included in a matchday squad since the 1-0 defeat to QPR nearly two months ago.
The four-time Holland U21 international made nearly 100 appearances in three years at Groningen, captaining the green-clad club from 2018 to 2020.
