Report: Derby leading chase for ‘spectacular’ £20m-rated player Lampard loves watching

Derby County and Swansea City are the two frontrunners in the race to sign Harry Wilson on loan from Premier League champions Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

While a return to the Championship might feel like a backwards step for a man who didn’t exactly look out of place during a spell in the top flight at Bournemouth last term, it is better than nothing.

Unless Wilson can secure a move to a second-tier club before Friday’s deadline, he will not be playing for anyone until the New Year.

Fortunately, a couple of the offers that have landed on his table look like good ones.

The Mirror believes that Swansea and Derby are currently leading the chase for a £20 million-rated winger who has also been linked with Bristol City and Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest side.

Swansea are certainly in Liverpool’s good books.

After all, Rhian Brewster’s superb spell in South Wales raised his stock so much that the Reds were able to sell a player without a single Premier League appearance under his belt for in excess of £20 million.

In Steve Cooper – a man who led an England U17 side containing Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho to World Cup glory – the Swans have a coach with a superb track record when it comes to developing youth.

Derby have also shown plenty of faith in the next generation, while the chance to hone your talents alongside England’s all-time record goal-scorer is not one that arises too often.

As recently as 2018/19, Wilson was a huge part of a Frank Lampard-led Rams side who were 90 minutes away from securing promotion to the Premier League.

“There’s a lot of talk about Harry and early in the season he was hitting spectacular goals, but what he’s done which has really impressed me in the last two months is really up his game generally,” Lampard told Sky.

“Everything about his game is positive, he wants the ball, he’s creating, he’s scoring so it’s not just the fantastic goals that Harry Wilson is; he’s a player who is developing fast and I’m loving watching him play at the minute.”
