Johnny Russell is desperate to leave Derby and pursue his MLS dream.

The 27-year-old has reportedly agreed terms with Peter Vermes’ side and will depart the Rams for a tiny figure as his contract at the iPro Stadium enters its final few months.

Russell is set to team up with the likes of USA internationals Matt Besler and Graham Zusi, as well as former Wigan Athletic midfielder Roger Espinoza.
Scotland international Russell remains one of Derby’s most crucial players under Gary Rowett, featuring 25 times this season in all competitions and finding the back of the net five times.

However, his head has been turned following interest from Sporting Kansas and that has seen him make the decision to rebuff offers of an extension from Derby and decide to try his luck across the pond.
Joining Derby from Scottish outfit Dundee United in July 2013, Russell has played 205 times for Derby, scoring 35 goals and adding another 34 strikes as assists. He could make his MLS debut on March 4 against New York City.
