The West Bromwich Albion winger has been linked with a move to Derby County in recent weeks.

A report from the Daily Telegraph claims that the Rams pulled out of a potential deal to sign Baggies winger James McClean, after being quoted an extortionate £15 million for the Republic of Ireland international.

The 28-year-old joined West Brom from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £1.5 million, and he has gone on to establish himself as an important player for the Black Country outfit.

McClean has played a key role for the Baggies since Alan Pardew’s appointment as manager, but it was reported that he could be sacrificed in order for the West Brom boss to fund a spending spree of his own, according to Sky Sports.

The 56-year-old ruled out the possibility of selling him, though, when speaking to reporters yesterday, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“We do have one player who we think might go out but it’s not Jonny Evans or James McClean.”

The real reason for McClean’s failed move to Derby, however, was the £15 million fee that West Brom were demanding, according to the Daily Telegraph.
