Derby County want to appoint Phillip Cocu as their new manager should Frank Lampard leave for Chelsea this summer, according to The Times.

It has been reported that Lampard is expected to become the new manager of Chelsea and replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

The report has claimed that former Barcelona midfielder Cocu is Derby’s “audacious target”, and that the Championship club in England have sounded out the Dutchman.

Good managerial appointment for Derby County?

Losing Lampard would be a massive blow for Derby, as the former England international midfielder did a great job at the Pride Park Stadium last season.

Derby reached the Championship playoff final, and the fans would be gutted if Lampard leaves the club for Chelsea this summer.

Cocu, though, could be a brilliant and smart managerial appointment for Derby, who need a manager like him who can work with young players and develop them.

The 48-year-old has been the Netherlands assistant manager, and the PSV and Fenerbahce boss.
