Derby County are reportedly set to land Gary Rowett as their new manager.
Ex-Derby manager Steve McClaren looks dejected
According to the the Daily Mail, Gary Rowett will be appointed as the new Derby County manager in the next 48 hours, having already opened talks with the club.
The Rams announced on Sunday evening that manager Steve McClaren had been sacked for the second time in less than two years, with his second stint in charge ending after exactly five months.
Derby were hammered 3-0 away at Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday evening, meaning McClaren had picked up just six points in the last nine games, ending the club’s hopes of a play-off place.
McClaren paid the price with his job, and it seems that Derby will move quickly to land his replacement, as the Daily Mail report that Gary Rowett is already in talks – and could be appointed in the next 48 hours.
Rowett, 43, was controversially sacked by Birmingham City in December despite having the Blues around the play-off places, and the club have struggled ever since his departure, showing just what a great job he was doing at St Andrews.
Now, Rowett is looking to get back into management, and the former Burton man appears to be ideal for Derby given his record with Birmingham, as well as his history with the Rams.

Rowett made over 100 appearances for Derby during his playing days, and a return to Pride Park may now be on the cards, with his appointment expected ahead of Saturday’s local derby with Nottingham Forest.
With reports of Rowett’s allegedly imminent move breaking, Derby fans have taken to Twitter to offer their views – and many believe that he’s the perfect candidate to take the club forward after another manager suffered a short reign with the club.
