The Jamaican international was a former hot prospect at Derby County.

Derby County have already been fairly busy in the transfer market this summer. They have already snapped up Darren Bent and Alex Pearce and remain in talks to bring Tom Ince to the club permanently.

Another name that has recently cropped up is that of Giles Barnes, a former Derby trainee.

The Sun reported at the weekend that Derby wanted to bring him back to the club from Houston Dynamo, at the behest of new owner Mel Morris.

That report has now been categorically denied by the local press.

The Derby Telegraph are reporting that he is ‘not on their wanted list’ and that the move is certainly not on the cards.

Barnes has recently been in great form MLS side Houston Dynamo, scoring 28 goals in 95 games for the club and is currently with Jamaica on international duty at the Copa America.

His contract expires in six months and he was therefore not a far-fetched target, but it seems the deal is a no-go.

Barnes turned pro at Derby in 2005 and spent four promising years at the club which were unfortunately curtailed by injury and fitness concerns.
