Apparently the stats show that Bristol City defender and Derby and Sunderland target, Joe Bryan, is the best left-back in the Championship.

The Bristol Post have revealed that according to their findings, Bristol City star Joe Bryan is statistically the best left-back in the Sky Bet Championship.

Their stats have come via WhoScored.com who rate Bryan as the best performing left-back throughout the 2016/17 season, despite the Robins’ struggles at points during the campaign.

This is news that should please both Derby County and newly relegated Sunderland, who according to the Derby Telegraph are both interested in the 23-year-old.

However, it could also mean that they will have to act quickly to seal what is believed to be around a £2.5m deal for Bryan, in case other clubs come sniffing.

The defender is Bristol born and came through the ranks at Ashton Gate, having loan spells with Bath City and Plymouth Argyle before breaking into the first team on a regular basis in 2013/14.

Initially used as a winger, Bryan started to feature more as a fullback during City’s successful promotion campaign from League One in 2014/15, but has the ability to operate anywhere down the left flank.
