Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday are set to miss out on Aleksandar Boljevic with KAS Eupen winning the race for the £2 million winger, according to La Derniere Heure.
In truth, the trail linking two Championship clubs with the Montenegro international had gone about as cold as a wintery January morning on Wearside.
DH reported at the start of the month that Derby and Wednesday were hoping to snap up Boljevic for free, presuming that Standard Liege would be willing to terminate the contract of a winger who has failed to live up to expectations at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.
The 46-capped forward has not been included in the matchday squad for any of Standard’s last 12 Jupiler League fixtures.
But, after three weeks of waiting, we finally have some indication as to what the future holds for Boljevic.

The £2 million man is set to join Standard’s top-flight rivals KAS Eupen on a loan-to-buy deal.
He has already undergone a medical with the struggling side too; his arrival expected to be confirmed before Monday’s deadline.
Derby and Wednesday have both made hard work of things in the final third this season, and might have felt a fresh start could help Boljevic rediscover the form that saw him produce an impressive nine assists for Waasland-Beveren in 2018/19.
