Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday hoped they could get Aleksandar Boljevic for free this month but, according to DH, Standard Liege have no intention of letting the winger leave for nothing.
Unfortunately, the report fails to explain why a pair of Championship strugglers assumed Standard would be willing to rip up the final two years of Boljevic’s contract.
Perhaps they thought, after an underwhelming 18-month spell at the Jupiler League outfit, Standard would take drastic measures to get a big-money signing off their wage bill.
The former PSV Eindhoven youngster has been left out of the matchday squad for each of the past seven Jupiler League matches, after all, and appears to have no future at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.
But, according to DH, Standard Liege remain determined to recoup every penny of the £2 million fee they paid Waasland-Beveren for the Montenegro international in 2019.

Whether Derby or Sheffield Wednesday are willing to pay such a fee is anyone’s guess.
Derby’s hands are tied at the moment with that long-awaited takeover still in limbo, while Wednesday’s focus is on finding a new manager following the sudden departure of Tony Pulis.
