West Ham United are reportedly looking to add two midfielders this month.
According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United are continuing talks with Anderlecht over a deal to sign midfielder Leander Dendoncker – and remain hopeful that they will sign Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey.
The Hammers may have enjoyed something of an upturn in form under David Moyes, but they are still in need of January additions to aid their battle against the drop.
A new midfielder is an absolute must for West Ham, given that Cheikhou Kouyate has struggled this term, and Moyes’ only other two established options are Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang.
Now, the Daily Mail report that West Ham are continuing to hold talks with Belgian side Anderlecht over a deal to bring Leander Dendoncker to the London Stadium this month.
It’s claimed that Dendoncker wants to join West Ham to link up with Moyes, but a fee in the region of £27million could be required, providing a major stumbling block.
Dendoncker, 22, has already made more than 150 appearances for Anderlecht, impressing as a strong holding midfielder who can also play at centre back, summing up just why Moyes is pushing for his signature.
The report also adds that West Ham are hopeful of signing Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey, which would hand Moyes more of a ball-player to feature alongside a destroyer in Dendoncker.
Shelvey’s discipline means he has had a stop-start season this term, and as a boyhood West Ham fan, he may jump at the chance to join the Hammers – if they can tempt Newcastle into selling him this month.
