According to a report in the Daily Telegraph (18/2 page 9, Sport Supplement pull-out), Dele Alli is in line to make a return to the starting XI against Wolfsberger.
The midfielder has scarcely been seen in Spurs’ starting XI this season, starting just six games all season.
Alli’s last start came in late December in a League Cup game against Stoke, but he hasn’t started a Europa League match since Spurs’ clash with Ludogorets in late November, 84 days ago.
Alli will surely be keen to impress in this one should he be given a chance to start.
The attacking midfielder hasn’t been at his best this term, scoring just twice in 14 appearances, and if he’s going to re-establish himself in Mourinho’s side, he needs to move up a gear or two.
Luckily, it seems as though he’s going to get a chance to do just that against Wolfsberger.
With all due respect to the Austrian outfit, they’re not the strongest opposition Spurs will face this season, so this could be a real chance for Alli to flex his ability and regain a bit of the confidence that has eluded him this term.
Whether or not the Telegraph’s report proves to be accurate remains to be seen, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for Alli’s name when the teamsheet is announced on Thursday evening.
