Report: Dedryck Boyata and Jack Hendry missing from Celtic squad

Dedryck Boyata has not travelled with Celtic’s squad for the first-leg of their Europa League tie.

According to a report from STV, Dedryck Boyata was missing from the Celtic squad that has travelled to Lithuania for the first-leg of their Europa League play-off tie with Suduva.

Boyata has not featured for the Hoops this season but has been one of the main topics of conversation since his return from the World Cup, with STV reporting that his agent had suggested that he was unhappy with the Scottish Premiership champions for rejecting a bid from Fulham while the English window was open.

The situation surrounding the centre-back’s Parkhead future took another twist as the Bhoys were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers. STV reports that Boyata claimed an injury was the reason for his absence for the clash with AEK Athens, but Brendan Rodgers insisted that he was fit for the tie.

It had appeared that the somewhat bizarre situation may have started to clear itself up as Boyata was pictured back in training this week, but speculation is now bound to increase again.

STV suggests that Boyata, along with Jack Hendry, was missing from the squad that travelled for their first-leg tie. And while Hendry is apparently injured, STV suggests that the reason for Boyata’s absence is unclear.

Boyata’s absence is certainly going to lead to plenty of speculation, especially as he did return to training this week. There is no definitive reason to believe that his future is a factor behind his absence, but it will undoubtedly leave Celtic fans even more desperate for the situation to be resolved as soon as possible as the uncertainty cannot be helpful.
