Report: Declan Rice has no intention of leaving West Ham

Declan Rice’s West Ham United future seemed to be thrown into doubt this past week, but perhaps there is reason for cautious optimism.

According to a report from Football London, Declan Rice has no intention of leaving West Ham this summer and is likely to sign a new deal at the London Stadium in news that should be music to Manuel Pellegrini’s ears.

Rice’s future seemed to become a concern for the Hammers fans during the week with the London Evening Standard reporting that the centre-back had rejected the club’s contract offer which would have seen his wages jump from £3,000-a-week to £8,000-a-week.

The London Evening Standard added that West Ham do plan to return with an improved offer, and Football London has seemingly given further hope that a resolution will be found as they suggest that the Republic of Ireland international has no intention of moving on.

Based on the start that Rice has made to life in the first-team, the Irons would surely be foolish not to do all they can to make sure that he commits his future to the club beyond his current deal which is set to expire in 2020.

The 19-year-old was a real star for the Hammers during this past season, establishing himself as a key part of the side and giving West Ham fans reason to believe that he is a future captain and potential successor to Mark Noble when it comes to the Mr West Ham moniker.

He appears to have a huge amount of potential and risking losing him by not offering something like the terms that he is looking for is a serious gamble. He is reportedly keen to stay at the club, but the Hammers should not test his patience too much given how special a player he is threatening to be.
