According to The Scottish Sun, Aberdeen have now opened talks with Motherwell defender Declan Gallagher – and are hopeful of getting him signed up.
It’s claimed that the Dons have begun negotiations with the defender, with new manager Stephen Glass keen to get new signings on board for next season.
Gallagher is out of contract at the end of the season, so he is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Aberdeen or anyone else.
Aberdeen have real hope of winning the race for the 30-year-old, in what would be something of a coup to start their summer transfer business.
What about Celtic though?
The Daily Record reported in January that Celtic are keen to sign Gallagher, with the defender keen on a ‘dream move’ back to Parkhead having spent time with the Bhoys as a kid.
TEAMtalk even suggested that Gallagher’s head had been turned by Celtic’s interest, and a free transfer move to Glasgow appeared to be on the cards.

Things have changed at Celtic though. They don’t have a manager, they don’t have a director of football and chief executive Peter Lawwell is on his way out this summer.
Celtic aren’t ready to be making signings right now, and that means that a deal for Gallagher may have been somewhat lost in the shuffle.
That has given Aberdeen a window of opportunity, and it looks like Gallagher will be heading to join Scott Brown at Pittodrie.
