According to the Express and Star, Aston Villa’s next signing after Lovre Kalinic will be a central defender.

Kalinic has agreed to move to Villa and his signing could even be officially unveiled today, as Dean Smith has already moved to strengthen in goal.

Villa’s current options between the stick have proven to be weak, with Orjan Nyland making numerous errors this season.

And Smith now wants to tighten up his side’s backline even further, after bringing Kalinic in.

Soon after taking over Smith suggested that Villa’s squad was top heavy, as Steve Bruce had focused on bringing in attackers more than defenders.

Villa have already moved to sign James Collins, but he got injured during contract negotiations.
