Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is looking to make his defence stronger in the January transfer window.

Kalinic has agreed to move to Villa and his signing could even be officially unveiled today, as Dean Smith has already moved to strengthen in goal.
Villa’s current options between the stick have proven to be weak, with Orjan Nyland making numerous errors this season.
And Smith now wants to tighten up his side’s backline even further, after bringing Kalinic in.
Soon after taking over Smith suggested that Villa’s squad was top heavy, as Steve Bruce had focused on bringing in attackers more than defenders.

And Villa’s next signing will be a centre-back, according to the Express and Star.
Villa have already moved to sign James Collins, but he got injured during contract negotiations.
And Smith now has his eyes on other defensive targets, as the Villa boss looks to improve his backline.
