According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are lining up as many as five new signings for the coming weeks.

Villa want to sign Tyrone Mings, who they had on loan last season, and Jack Butland, who they feel would be an upgrade on Jed Steer.

The Villans are also said to be keen on a central midfielder, a winger and a striker – as Dean Smith’s looks to vastly strengthen his squad in the Premier League.

Villa have already made two signings, so they could foreseeably bring their total number of additions to seven in the early stages of the summer, if all goes according to plan.

Villa are already showing that their aim in the Premier League is not simply to stay up.

Smith’s side have already shown ambition, and they seem to have some very exciting targets on the radar.

Villa have already shown that they are not thinking sentimentally, with Smith taking some ruthless decisions about players who have helped the club get promoted.

And if Villa’s transfer plans do come off, then they could well be one of the surprise packages in the Premier League next term.
