Nottingham Forest are reportedly pushing to sign Burnley’s Dean Marney.
According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Burnley midfielder Dean Marney has met with Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka to discuss a move to the City Ground.
Marney, 34, came up through the ranks with Tottenham Hotspur and joined Burnley from Hull City back in 2010, and has played his part in two promotions for the Clarets.
The midfielder has racked up more than 200 appearances for Burnley, and has been a trusted player under Sean Dyche, but now appears to be on his way out of the club.
Not only has Marney gradually dropped down the pecking order due to the presence of players such as Jack Cork, Jeff Hendrick, Steven Defour and Ashley Westwood, but injuries have taken their toll on him too, and he hasn’t featured at all this season.
With his contract expiring this summer, Marney looks set to leave Turf Moor, and the Lancashire Telegraph report that he has already met with Aitor Karanka to discuss a move to Nottingham Forest.
The Forest boss does have the likes of Adlene Guedioura and Liam Bridcutt at his disposal, but with Jack Colback scheduled to return to parent club Newcastle United this summer, Marney may be eyed up as a replacement.
The veteran is a tried-and-tested Championship performer, but with little football under his belt in recent times and injury concerns too, Forest fans may be somewhat concerned about the move, even on a free transfer.
