A player in whom Celtic were reportedly interested is set to join Villarreal on loan, according to Diario AS.
The same publication listed Celtic among the clubs keen on the Real Madrid winger, Take Kubo, in June.
But it now claims that Kubo will spend the 2020/21 season on Spain’s east coast, after an agreement was reached between Real Madrid and Villarreal.
It adds that Villarreal will cover the Japan star’s €5-million-a-year salary (around £4.5m-a-year), but won’t have an option to buy at the end of Kubo’s loan spell.
The newly-appointed Villarreal manager Unai Emery, formerly of Arsenal, was key to the deal.

Celtic, who have re-signed Mohamed Elyounoussi in Kubo’s position, are not currently short of options in that part of the pitch.
That is despite the departures of Daniel Arzani and Jonny Hayes since the end of last season.
Kubo scored or made nine goals in 36 games while on loan to RCD Mallorca last season and is reported to have had interest from a string of reputable La Liga outfits.
Celtic fans – would Kubo have been a good addition?
