According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Ajax captain Davy Klaassen has signed a five-year contract with Everton after the clubs agreed a €28.5millon (£25million) fee.

The Toffees tied up the signature of Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, but they are far from done given that they are preparing for their return to the Europa League.

Manager Ronald Koeman and Director of Football Steve Walsh are working hard to bring more new signings to the club, and they appear to have struck a deal.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf report that Everton have not only agreed a fee of €28.5million (£25million) to sign Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen, but he has now penned a five-year contract with Koeman’s men.

Klaassen, 24, has come up through the ranks of the famed Ajax academy, and he has now racked up nearly 200 appearances for the club, whilst he has been captain of the Amsterdam side since 2015.

Klaassen enjoyed a fine campaign last season, notching 20 goals and ten assists for Ajax in an impressive season, which saw the club reach the final of the Europa League before losing to Manchester United.

Goalscoring midfielders are often hard to find, but Koeman has gone back to former club Ajax to land Klaassen, and he strengthens the Everton midfield that already has Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin as key players.

With a fee and a contract allegedly agreed, it seems like only a matter of time until Klaassen – who has four goals in 14 caps for the Netherlands – becomes Everton’s second summer signing after Pickford.
