Ajax star Davinson Sanchez wants to join Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Independent, Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez has told the club that he wants to leave in order to join Tottenham Hotspur, pleading with the Dutch giants to let him go.

Spurs may be the only Premier League team still yet to make a new signing this summer, but that didn’t stop them from picking up an impressive 2-0 win away at Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

With a Champions League campaign on the horizon though, manager Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for new signings, and wants to sign a centre back to challenge with the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

Rumours in recent days have suggested that Spurs are chasing a deal for Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez, and The Independent now report that he has directly asked the Amsterdam club to let him leave this month, as he wants to join Tottenham.

Sanchez, 21, only joined Ajax from Atletico Nacional last summer, but he quickly became an important part of the Ajax side under Peter Bosz, and impressed in the club’s run to the Europa League final last season.

Already a full Colombian international, Sanchez has impressed with his combination of pace and power, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino may feel that he can develop Sanchez into a star.

It’s noted that an offer of £28million is expected from Tottenham in a matter of hours, and whilst Ajax are holding out for closer to £35million, the player is pushing for the deal to be completed before this month’s transfer deadline.

Given question marks over Alderweireld’s long-term future, Sanchez looks to be a smart addition both for now and for the future, with Pochettino potentially closing in on his first signing of the summer.
