The Huddersfield Town boss is said to be winning the race to sign the Leeds United striker.
Leeds United striker Chris Wood
David Wagner wants Chris Wood at Huddersfield Town next season – and is not put off by Leeds United’s £15 million valuation of the 30-goal striker, the Irish Sun reports.
Wood is said to be “desperate” for Premier League football, after narrowly missing out on the play-offs with Leeds this past campaign.
And it is claimed that Huddersfield are “surprise favourites” to land him this summer, ahead of Premier League sides Crystal Palace, Southampton, Stoke City, Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United.
The Terriers are returning to English football’s top flight for the first time in 45 years, and the Irish Sun reports that Wagner, their German-American boss, sees Wood as the finisher who can fire them to safety next term.

A £3 million capture from Leicester City two summers ago, Wood’s Leeds fortunes were transformed under former boss Garry Monk.
But after quitting Elland Road at the end of last month, the 38-year-old has now been appointed by Middlesbrough and is expected to take trusted striker coach James Beattie with him.

And it remains to be seen how the New Zealand international will react to that development.
