According to the Daily Star, West Ham United boss David Moyes is identifying Championship players to sign – and wants to include two youngsters in first-team training.
It’s claimed that the Hammers boss wants to work with a smaller squad next season. However, he’s fearing the difficulties if selling players in the current market.
Still, he’s eyeing up Championship talent for homegrown players, in the hope of making some promising signings this summer. West Ham signed Jarrod Bowen in January, and seemingly want to repeat the trick.
Additionally though, Moyes wants a situation where Ben Johnson and Xande Silva are both included in first-team training. Unless players leave, that may be difficult.
Johnson, 20, surprisingly made his debut in February 2019. He started at left back away at Manchester City, turning in a promising display in a 1-0 defeat.
The defender hasn’t featured in the West Ham first team since then though. With questions about Jeremy Ngakia’s future, Johnson could step up as a right back.

Attacker Silva has played just twice for the West Ham first team since signing from Vitoria Guimaraes in 2018. A former Portuguese youth international, Silva is now 23 and needs to be playing.
Moyes seemingly wants him in and around the first team, and promoting both Silva and Johnson may limit the money West Ham need to spend this summer.
