According to a report in the Daily Mirror, it was David Moyes who persuaded West Ham United’s board to allow the squad to go to Miami for warm weather training.

West Ham have been hammered by their own supporters for going away to America to train, just days after a humiliating defeat against Burnley.

However, the board feared that a trip away would be a bad PR move, and there were temptations to cancel it.

Moyes, though, convinced the board that West Ham needed the trip.

The Scottish boss argued that it would be good for team bonding, as they head into the climax of the season.

West Ham are in a relegation scrap, and need their players to stay together, despite the toxic feeling in the stands at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are currently sitting just three points above the drop zone, with their poor form a real reason for concern.

Moyes’ side are next in action after the international break, when they take on fellow strugglers Southampton.
