According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic could miss out on re-signing Wigan Athletic goalkeeper David Marshall with Stoke City ready to move.
It’s claimed that Stoke boss Michael O’Neill has tabled an offer for Marshall, after hearing that Wigan had gone into administration.
Marshall had been viewed as an alternative target to Fraser Forster at Celtic, with Neil Lennon keen on a reunion.
The pair played together at Celtic in the past, and with Craig Gordon also gone, Marshall can provide the experience Lennon needs.
Stoke’s move may now force Celtic’s hand, as they could miss out on the 35-year-old if they don’t move quickly.
One factor to note is that Marshall may only be backup to Jack Butland at Stoke, whereas Celtic could offer him regular playing time in Forster’s spot.
Forster spent the season on loan at Celtic, but a return from Southampton now looks unlikely with Forster unwilling to return to Parkhead on loan.
Marshall is thought to be keen on joining Celtic, but the Bhoys have yet to make a move for him – and that has given Stoke the chance to make their move.
With Wigan strapped for cash, Marshall could be a bargain signing for somebody, and it currently looks like it may be Stoke rather than Celtic.
