Sunderland look to be closing in on two January signings.
According to Sky Sports News, Everton duo Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo will have medicals at Sunderland ahead of proposed moves to the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats need reinforcements this month as they look to pull away from the relegation zone, but it remains to be seen if another average midfielder in the form of Gibson is the solution.

Oviedo could offer something at the back for Sunderland, especially now fellow left-back Patrick van Aanholt has left the club to join Crystal Palace.

However questions will be asked if this is the quality of player David Moyes is able to attract at this stage of a vital season.

It is always tough to sign players midway through a campaign, so it could be a case of simply getting what you can, especially when you are fighting at the wrong end of the table.
That said, Gibson has failed to fulfil his potential thus far and he will have to up his game considerably to ensure he fires Sunderland up the table in the weeks ahead.
