According to the Daily Star, Atlanta United president Darren Eales is unsure that Newcastle United are the right club for playmaker Miguel Almiron.

Atlanta won the MLS Cup over the weekend after a superb season, but they are now getting ready to deal with a whole host of departures.

Manager Tata Martino is leaving, and it’s now a given that Almiron will also be moving on in the January transfer window, most likely to an English club.

Newcastle United are the club being most strongly linked with a move to sign the playmaker, but whether the Magpies can actually close such a big deal remains to be seen.

Now, the Daily Star report that Atlanta president Eales – formerly of Tottenham Hotspur – is unsure about letting Almiron go to Newcastle, for two main reasons.

Eales wants to make sure that Almiron goes to the right club, but feels that the ongoing saga over a potential takeover at Newcastle is a major problem, and also isn’t convinced that they will stump up the money to sign the Paraguayan.

Rafael Benitez will remain keen on a deal for the 25-year-old, as he possesses the pace and creativity to finally give Newcastle a star No. 10.

Almiron hit 13 goals and 13 assists for Atlanta in an outstanding season, and that record means other clubs are keen – and Newcastle will hope that they can ease some of Eales’ fears and get a deal done for next month.
