According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are plotting a swoop for Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe – and he’s even flown into Glasgow, been given a tour of Celtic Park, and will watch tonight’s game with Barcelona.
The Bhoys return to Champions League action this evening as they host Barcelona in their penultimate group stage game, with Brendan Rodgers’ side needing a win to harbour any hope of a place in the knockout stages, whilst third place in the group would send them into the Europa League.
Manager Rodgers will be focusing on getting a good result, but he also appears to have one eye on the January transfer window, as a potential new signing will be in the crowd for this evening’s game.
The Daily Mail report that Celtic want to bring Portland Timbers star Darlington Nagbe to Glasgow in January, and have essentially rolled out the red carpet for the United States international.

It’s claimed that Nagbe has not only flown into Glasgow, but has also been given a tour of Celtic Park, and will watch tonight’s game with Barcelona from the stands ahead of a proposed move to join the Bhoys.
Nagbe, 26, has starred for Portland Timbers in recent years, racking up more than 200 appearances for the Major League Soccer side whilst earning a place in the United States squad, having switched allegiance from Liberia, the country of his birth.

Primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play out wide, the diminutive Nagbe would bring pace and skill to the middle of the park for Celtic, and it’s claimed that the Bhoys have scouted him on a number of occasions.
The report suggests that a deal for Nagbe would cost £1.5m, and Celtic are using Nagbe’s trip to decide whether they and the player want to pursue a January deal.
