According to the Daily Mail, Daniel Stendel has communicated his interest in becoming the new Sunderland boss.
The Black Cats sacked Phil Parkinson on Sunday following a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town, and are now searching for a new manager.
A host of names have been suggested so far, but with Gus Poyet rejecting the move, Sunderland have to look elsewhere.
Paul Cook, Nigel Pearson and Danny Cowley appear keen, and Stendel has joined them in expressing an interest in the job.
The German has been out of management since leaving Heart of Midlothian at the end of last season, and is now seeking a return.
Stendel became Barnsley boss in 2018, and led them to promotion from League One in his first season in charge, finishing three points ahead of Sunderland.

Sky Sports reported in October 2019 that Sunderland were considering Stendel as a replacement for Jack Ross, but ended up going with Parkinson instead.
Stendel is now in the running again, and having won promotion from League One, his interest in the job should be very appealing to the Black Cats hierarchy.
