The Middlesbrough target is reportedly keen on signing the Newcastle United striker this summer if appointed.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (2/6; page 79), Daniel Stendel plans to target Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle if he gets the Middlesbrough job this summer.
The Sunday Mirror reports that Boro have approached Barnsley about speaking to Stendel after he led the Tykes to promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
And while it remains to be seen what Stendel makes of the interest, it is perhaps telling that he appears to be considering potential targets should he make the move to the Riverside Stadium.
The Sunday Mirror (2/6; page 79) reports that Stendel would want Boro to make a move for Magpies ace Gayle, who enjoyed an outstanding campaign in the second tier, scoring 24 goals as they went on to reach the play-off semi-finals.

Following a season in which Middlesbrough scored just 49 goals under Tony Pulis, reports that they may be interested in Gayle could be music to the supporters’ ears despite his connections to St James’ Park.
If Gayle returns to the Championship next season, the team that lands him will surely be in with a fantastic chance of getting across the line in the promotion race. So appointing Stendel could prove to be a popular move if his arrival is soon followed by a move for the Magpies ace.
