Tuttosport claim Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has given Antonio Conte a deadline of January to make a decision over whether he wants to sign a new deal with Spurs. Conte is believed to have the option of another year.

The 53-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season. Joining Spurs little under 12 months ago, the ex-Chelsea boss penned a contract until the end of the 2022-23 season. That deal does include the option for another season.

Now, he is more than halfway through that deal. In January, Conte will have just six months remaining on his deal. He has recently spoken of the need to have another three transfer windows to turn his side into title challengers.

It certainly hints that Conte’s sights are set on remaining at Spurs. But things change in football – most-recently, the doubts over Max Allegri’s job at his beloved Juventus. Now, Conte has been given a deadline to make a decision.

Levy is said to have informed Conte that he has until January to make a decision on his contractual situation. Whether that be signing a completely new deal, or extending his current contract for another year – remains to be seen.

While many Spurs fans will be desperate for Conte to stay, and might be slightly worried by Levy’s tactics – a decision does need to be made. Spurs cannot approach the summer and begin planning if Conte does not want to stay.

There is no reason why Conte would not want to stay. He has been given money to spend, which he and Fabio Paratici have done. He is improving this Spurs side and there is potential to fight for the title. But things change in football.

If a big club, one of Europe’s heavyweights, come calling – who knows. If Juventus are serious in their approach, Conte will feel the romantic attachment to return there. But as things stand, it looks likely he will remain at Spurs.
