According to the Daily Mail’s live transfer blog (12:27), Swansea City winger Daniel James has asked to leave the club for a late move to Leeds United.

James, 21, has impressed under Graham Potter this season, and showed his quality with a fine goal against Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

The winger has been the subject of speculation throughout the month, with Leeds United keen to lure him back to Yorkshire with a move to Elland Road.

James was born in Beverley in Yorkshire and came up through the Hull City ranks before moving on to Swansea in 2014, where he has made a name for himself.

Leeds now appear to be nearing a breakthrough, as the Daily Mail claim that James has asked Swansea to let him go in order to sign for the Whites before tonight’s transfer deadline.

The move would be a loan deal, with Leeds paying £2million to take him until the end of the season before completing a permanent move worth around £10million – if Leeds get promoted.

If the Whites don’t return to the Premier League, then James would likely return to Swansea, and they would hope to agree a new contract with him given that his current deal expires in 2020.

Leeds finally appear to be closing in on Marcelo Bielsa’s top target, and that should be the Whites done for the January window, adding James to Kiko Casilla and Mateusz Bogusz.
