Christopher Nkunku has decided to join Graham Potter’s Chelsea despite interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, according to The Athletic.

Chelsea to sign Liverpool target Christopher Nkunku

The Athletic are reporting this morning that RB Leipzig star Nkunku, linked with a move to Liverpool and Real Madrid, has decided to join Chelsea in the summer of 2023.

The report has claimed that Nkunku, who can play as a midfielder or as a forward, has signed a pre-contract agreement with Chelsea.

The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners have committed to paying more than the 24-year-old’s release clause of £52.7 milion.

That’s because, according to the report, Chelsea want to avoid a transfer battle with other clubs for the France international in the summer of 2023.

This will come as a blow for Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Fussball Transfers reported last week that Premier League giants Liverpool and La Liga powerhouse Madrid are keen on Nkunku, described as “dangerous” by France national football team manager Didier Deschamps in Kicker in March 2022.

Stats

Christopher Nkunku has been on the books of RB Leipzig since the summer of 2019 when he joined from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 24-year-old has played as a forward, out wide and in attacking midfield this season.

The Frenchman has scored six goals in eight Bundesliga appearances so far this campaign.

Nkunku scored 20 goals and gave 13 assists in the Bundesliga and scored seven goals and provided one assist in the UEFA Champions League last season.
