According to Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (15:48), Crystal Palace playmaker Jonny Williams is set to undergo a medical with Sunderland ahead of joining the Black Cats on loan.

Simon Grayson has not only brought in permanent signings Jason Steele, Robbin Ruiter, Aiden McGeady and James Vaughan, but also managed to strike deals to land Tyias Browning, Brendan Galloway and Lewis Grabban on loan from Premier League clubs.

Now, after a 3-0 thumping at Barnsley on Saturday afternoon, manager Grayson is set to dip back into the transfer market before tonight’s deadline, with another Premier League loan deal set for completion.

Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (15:48) claims that Crystal Palace playmaker Jonny Williams is all set for a move to the Stadium of Light, and will undergo a medical this evening ahead of joining Sunderland.

Williams, 23, has come up through the ranks with Palace, becoming a fan favourite with the nickname ‘Joniesta’, but he has played just 55 league games for the Eagles.

The midfielder has been loaned out to Nottingham Forest, MK Dons and Ipswich Town (twice) in recent years, and new Palace boss Frank de Boer seemingly doesn’t believe that he will be a factor in the first team this season.

Sunderland now look set to be the beneficiaries, taking Williams on loan until the end of the season to boost their midfield options, providing more creativity for Grayson’s side.

A Welsh international with 17 caps to his name, Williams needs to be playing games rather than sitting on the sidelines at Selhurst Park, and he will hope that this latest loan move can provide a platform for him to show Palace what he can do.
