Crystal Palace are likely to complete the signing of departing West Bromwich Albion defender Nathan Ferguson but a deal for Gent talisman Jonathan David is set to be out of The Eagles’ reach.

The Guardian giveth, the Guardian taketh away, then, for Palace fans.

Roy Hodgson has made no secret of his desire to bring new signings to Selhurst Park this summer while lowering the average age of the Premier League’s second-oldest squad.

David and Ferguson, at 20 and 19 respectively, tick plenty of boxes for the Crystal Palace boss while promising to solve two problem positions.

Ferguson, despite being just 19 years of age and making his first-team debut as recently as August, looks set to fill an Aaron Wan-Bissaka shaped hole at right-back.

The Birmingham-born teenager saw an £8 million move to Selhurst fall through in January due to a foot problem discovered during his medical.

But with West Brom confirming on Tuesday that Ferguson will leave the Hawthorns after rejecting a new contract, the free-agent looks set to be Palace’s first signing of what could be a hectic summer.

The chances of Canada international David following Ferguson to the English capital, however, look slim.

The Guardian points out that the Brooklyn-born goal-machine, who hit the headlines with 23 goals and ten assists for Gent in 2019/20, believes that the Bundesliga is the perfect place for him to hone his already considerable talents.

HLN claims that David is valued at a staggering £30 million – a fee which is probably beyond Crystal Palace’s means anyway during a time of unprecedented financial uncertainty.
