Middlesbrough and Newcastle United are said to be keen on the winger, who has struggled to make an impression at Crystal Palace.
Middlesbrough have joined Newcastle United in the race to sign Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend, according to a report on page 47 of Tuesday’s Sun newspaper.
Townsend has struggled to make an impression since leaving Newcastle for Palace last summer and it is claimed the England international will be allowed to leave for the £13 million they paid.

And that could put Middlesbrough in the driving seat, with Newcastle, reportedly, only able to offer a loan deal.
Boro face a struggle to keep hold of their own winger Gaston Ramirez, according to the Sun, and Townsend’s arrival would soften the blow were the Uruguayan to force through a move to Leicester City.

Newcastle, meanwhile, have lost Christian Atsu to the African Cup of Nations and will be looking to strengthen their push for Championship promotion.
Townsend moved to St. James’ Park from Tottenham Hotspur a year ago, but was unable to keep the Magpies in the top flight – despite scoring four goals in 13 appearances for Rafa Benitez’s men.
