According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso in 2021.
It’s noted that Van Aanholt’s deal expires at the end of the season, and Palace currently hope that the Dutchman signs a new contract.
However, the Eagles are looking at potential alternatives just in case Van Aanholt does want to leave, and Alonso is one target.
Out of favour
Alonso, 29, has played just three league games this season, and hasn’t appeared at all since the 3-3 draw with West Bromwich Albion in September.
The Spaniard had an absolute nightmare in that game, as he was booked and way off the pace before being hooked at half time by Frank Lampard.
With Ben Chilwell now the clear first-choice left back, Alonso has little chance of starting any time soon, and may need to move on in 2021.

London stay
That’s where Palace could come in. They can offer Alonso the chance to stay in London, where Alonso has been since his 2016 move to Stamford Bridge.
Michy Batshuayi and Gary Cahill have both joined Palace from Chelsea in recent times, and joining up with them again could be appealing to Alonso.
Alonso still has more than two-and-a-half years left on his Chelsea contract, meaning the Blues can still demand a fee, but he’s clearly down the pecking order under Lampard, so Palace could sense a bargain.
