Crystal Palace and West Ham United have been showing an interest in Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne, with the seldom-seen right-back due to become a free agent in the summer transfer window, according to Goal.
With the 14-time England international turning 29 last month, you would imagine that Clyne will be chomping at the bit as he looks to get his injury-stricken career back on track sooner rather than later.
The experienced full-back was one of first names on Jurgen Klopp’s team-sheet when he first took over at Anfield in 2015.
But a series of long-term fitness problems have coincidence with the rapid rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold, leaving Clyne looking like the odd one out as Liverpool re-establish themselves as a dominant force of European football.
The former Southampton man has not made a single appearance during a glorious 2019/20 campaign for the Reds. And, with his contact running out, a man who set Liverpool back £12.5 million in the summer of 2015 could have played his final game for the Merseyside giants.
Goal claims that West Ham have identified Clyne as a potential bargain solution to their right-back problem. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are mulling over a deal to bring a former academy graduate back to Selhurst Park, eight years after he swapped the Eagles for St Mary’s.
With the global health crisis set to hit even Premier League clubs hard in the pocket, Clyne’s impending free-agent status should make him a man in demand.
