Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is reportedly wanted by Crystal Palace.

Simon Mignolet of Liverpool looks on prior to the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final second leg match between Porto and Liverpool at Estadio do Dragao on April 17, 2019 in Porto, Portugal.

According to the London Evening Standard, Crystal Palace are eyeing up a move to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for £8million this summer.

Palace added Vicente Guaita last summer, and whilst he appears to be an upgrade on Wayne Hennessey, Roy Hodgson may still pursue another stopper.

Mignolet is desperate for first-team football having been benched by Liverpool in favour of big-money goalkeeper Alisson, and the Belgian will surely move on.

Palace are now thought to be interested in luring him to Selhurst Park, and would be paying around £8million to bring him down to South London.

Mignolet, 31, maybe isn’t quite good enough for a top team like Liverpool, but he should be more than capable with a side like Palace, especially having starred with Sunderland in the past too.

What’s interesting is that Palace will have the cash to bring in a number of new signings, with the Standard noting that Manchester United are close to a £50million deal for Eagles right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Hodgson may choose to spend a small chunk of United’s cash on a Liverpool player in Mignolet, in an interesting twist of fate between the two North West rivals.

In another curious note, Liverpool have allegedly identified Southampton’s ex-Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to replace Mignolet, taking the role of substitute stopper given that nobody is getting anywhere close to Alisson any time soon.
